Ages 3 - 5

by age 4: 

• understands some color, shape, and words for family (aunt, grandma, uncle)

• answers simple WH- questions

• some pronouns used (I, you, me, we)

• tells about his/her day

• some 4 word sentences

• understood by most people

by age 5:

• ​understands time words such as first, next, last, today, tomorrow, yesterday

• follows 3 step related directions (ex.: Finish your milk, brush your teeth, then get your jacket.)

• All speech sounds are correct in words.  May make mistakes on some hard sounds such as l, r, s, z, v, sh, ch, j, th

• Tells stories

• Can hold a conversation
